Fire Chief In Marianna, Arkansas Killed in Domestic Fight

FAST FACTS:

Marianna Fire Chief Chuck Boone at the home of Patti Amos Saturday night
Steve Amos, estranged husband of Patti, shoots and kills Boone
Amos arrested, possibly facing capital murder, kidnapping and aggravated assault
(Memphis 12/31/2007) - Not a holiday wreath, but a wreath of sorrow hangs on the door of the Marianna Volunteer Fire Department, in remembrance of 47 year old Fire Chief Chuck Boone.

"It's just a tragedy that it happened. Just the families that are touched by it and just the whole thing it's just a tragedy." says Boone's friend Anthony Vondran.

The tragic turn came around 3 am Saturday at a home where Boone was with his girlfriend Patti Amos.

Amos' estranged husband Steve showed up.

"Mr. Amos was inside the home when the altercation happened and Mr. Boone was shot numerous times." says Lee County Sheriff Jack Oxner.

Chief Boone died at the home.

The sheriff says Amos then held his estranged wife in the house for three hours, beating her before he fled.

Amos was later arrested and is expected to be charged with capital murder, kidnapping and aggravated assault.

Distraught firefighters say Chuck Boone was a mentor and was instrumental in getting updated equipment.

Boone owned Boone Auto Parts. Workers are now mourning.

They say the business will now close its doors, because without Boone, there is no business.

"I couldn't work back here. Me and him worked in there together and shared laughs and shared some things together. I couldn't come back here to work." says Boone's co-worker Keith Lee.

Sources say there had been a history of violence between Patti Amos and her husband, only this time Chief Boone got caught in the middle.

The sheriff says this is the fifth murder in Lee County, Arkansas this year. All five have been domestic related.
